While in Chincheros we attended a demonstration of how the alpacha wool is cleaned, dyed, spun and woven into beautiful garments and blankets.
We witnessed how local plants are used to create the dye and how various temperature baths with salts and other minerals can change the colors and saturation of the fibers. The fibers are then dried, rolled and spun into yarns for weaving.
I purchased a beautiful table runner here. An item that took someone several months to weave by hand. It will have a place of honor on my Peruvian wall collection along with other items purchased throughout the trip.
