My First Digital Painting

I just purchased the Wacom Intuos5 Medium Pen Tablet and I’ve tried my very first painting of a photograph in Photoshop CS5 using the mixer brush.   This is going to be loads of fun!!

It takes a bit of time to get use to the eye-hand coordination to be able to watch the painting and not the tablet, but after a couple of hours I began to get the hang of it.  I customized the tablet with the various touch motions to scroll and drag and zoom… it is very cool!

Not the best I hope to produce, but pretty interesting for my first one!

I first painted the flower, then did a selection of the flower and put it on its own layer…  then I really mixed it up with a large brush to make the background from the photo.   Once I put the flower layer back on top, I was able to have a clean flower on an “out of focus” background..

I have loads to learn, but I’m excited about what I can produce with this tool!  Photography and Painting… what a fantastic combination!
