Riviera Maya – Playa del Carmen

We took a small ferry from where we docked at the island of Cozumel over to the mainland and landed at the city of Playa del Carmen.  This area of Mexico is also known as the “Riviera Maya”.  The Riviera Maya is a tourism and resort district. It straddles the coastal Highway 307 along the Caribbean coastline of the state of Quintana Roo, located on the eastern portion of the Yucatán Peninsula. This district starts at the city of Playa del Carmen and ends at the village of Tulum.

As we approached the coastline, I was able to capture a series of images from the ferry.  These were hand-held on a moving boat, so I was surprised that I got some as sharp as I did.  I then stitched together 6 of them in a panoramic view of this beautiful coastline.

Post Processing:

I used the new feature in Lightroom CC, “photo merge” – panorama.  I generally merged a panorama in Photoshop, but with this newest version of Lightroom, the pano feature is now available without exporting to Photoshop.  It actually does a nice job.  I work in Adobe RAW (.dng) files, and it rendered a panoramic in the .dng format.  I was then able to process the image in the Development module as I normally would.  I adjusted highlights and shadows, added clarity and vibrance, and applied a graduated filter to the sky.  All non destructively.  You gotta love Lightroom!

Here are the original 6 images.  As you can see, I tried to overlap each capture about 20% so the software had plenty of pixels to work with when stitching the panoramic.
