Spring Trip to the Botanical Gardens

As the wildflower hunting has not been that successful this year, I decided it was time to make my first trip to the San Antonio Botanical Gardens.  It was also time to renew my membership, so the timing couldn’t be better.  I figured most of the gardens should be in bloom, and some may already be through their season by now, as here in Texas, February and March are already prime for some of the spring flowers.

So I called a photo buddy, Raleigh, to see if he wanted to meet me at the gardens and headed out about 12:30 for an afternoon for glorious flowers and sunshine.  Well.. not really much sunshine… it was overcast most of the afternoon but that’s great for shooting anyway.  I love great cloudy skies in my images.

The San Antonio Botanical Gardens has opened a new entrance recently and added a whole new section.  They are currently under construction for yet another new area.  So the gardens are growing and continuing to add new and exciting things for see and do.  If you live here in San Antonio you really should visit the gardens.  And if you love the flowers and the outdoors, and you want to continue to have a valuable and beautiful resource like this in our community, why not join.  It’s a great place to take the kids or grand kids at anytime during the year.

Well after three or more hours there, we hardly got out of the orchid house and the first garden area.  We never walked 90% of the property today.  There was so much to shoot just in the first few areas.  I guess I will just have to make a second trip while things are still in bloom.

Here are few of my favorites from the orchid house.  Thanks Raleigh for the reminder to zoom in while in live view to manually adjust my focus.  The macro lens depth of field is so narrow, just a slight adjustment made a world of difference in the clarity of the focus point!!

And a few images from the outside gardens.  It is hard to decide what to post; they are all so beautiful
