Sremski Karlovci

Saturday, May 7, 2011 – A Side Trip to Sremski Karlovci

Later, Ann took us to the town of Sremski Karlovci  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sremski_Karlovci  which is only a few miles from Novi Sad.  We stopped at a small church along the road and went inside.  They were preparing the church for a concert or evening event, so we couldn’t spend much time there.  I captured a few images of the inside of  the Church of Tekije  http://www.tekije.com/en/o-nama.html and then continued on to Sremski Karlovci.

There are many interesting buildings in this town, including the Gymnasium of Karlovci, the Clerical High School of Saint Arsenije, the Orthodox Seminary, St. Nicholas Orthodox Church and next door the Catholic church the Holy Trinity, the Patriarchy Court and in the center of town the “four lion” fountain.

We walk around town, sat in the central square and had a coffee and then headed back to Novi Sad.  We picked up Ivan and met Ana’s parents at a local restaurant for a wonderful meal.  We then parked down by the Strand  (beach) and walk along the park.  We had a drink at a small beach bar before heading back home.  Tomorrow, we fly to Budapest and begin the 8 day cruise up the Danube.
