Star Wars – Galaxy’s Edge

We spent Christmas and New Years at Walt Disney World at the Old Key West Resort.  We have been Disney Vacation Club members since 1993 when they first began the DVC concept.  I wanted to see the new Star Wars land and hopefully get a chance to ride on the new rides.  Unfortunately, the new rides are NOT ON FASTPASS.  So you have to physically go to the park and get in line for the Millennium Falcon Smugglers Run ride which usually has a queue line of 1.5 to 2.5 hours depending on the time of the day.

The other special feature of the land is the Star Wars – Rise-of-the-Resistance which Disney describes as “a massive attraction with multiple ride systems that is unlike anything you’ve ever experienced at Walt Disney World Resort… or anywhere else in the galaxy!”   For this experience, you must first be IN THE PARK, and then join a BOARDING GROUP.  You can do this by using the My Disney Experience app.  If you get to the park at 6:00a.m. and get through the gate before about 7:00a.m., you will probably get into a group sometime during that day.  You will be given a boarding time and a 2 hour window to enter the Rise of the Resistance area of the Star Wars land.

As of this article, I have not experienced either of the above rides.  I plan to go to the park Jan 2nd  on the 5:00a.m. bus from our resort and test my luck to see if I can get into a boarding group.  If not… I will wait for a few years until they convert the ride to FASSPASS and then get my pass 60 days out and plan my return just like I did for the Pandora Avatar ride.  Waiting in line for 2 hours for a single ride is really not the Disney experience that I want to embrace.  I’m willing to wait.  There is PLENTY to see throughout the STAR WARS land other than the rides.

I walked around during the day and captured a few images and then went back in the evening to see it at night.  Here are just a few of the images I captured at night.  I hope to get more night photos on my next visit in the next couple of days.
