Downtown San Antonio Aguas Calientes, Guatemala

After leaving the area where we watched the children weaving the textiles and the natives grinding coffee and making tortillas, we headed downtown to the city center for about 30 minutes of shopping before our drive back to the port.  We were dropped at the San Antonio Aguas Calientes Central Park just in front of the Iglesia de San Antonio Aguas Calientes church.

There was a wedding ceremony being held inside the church so we were unable to get any images inside.  I was able to capture a image of a mother with the folded textile rug on her head; apparently a local custom that mothers wear these to services.

I then crossed the street to get a few pics of the boys playing the xylophone type instruments.  I entered their shop and purchased a nice hand woven table runner to use as a wall decoration at home.  Thirty minutes was not nearly enough time to shop, but we had to get back on the bus and begin our journey back through the countryside to the port at Puerto Quetzal.

Fortunately, we did have a few minutes to shop the vendors just outside the dock before re-boarding the ship.  I was able to get three small matching oil paintings from a local artist that I can’t wait to get framed and hung on the wall.
