Robben Island is just north west of Cape Town, South Africa and the site of the prison where political activist Nelson Mandela was held for 18 of the 27 years he was imprisoned for his beliefs prior to the fall of the apartheid. While on a tour to South Africa in early 2020 I visited the island and the prison (which is now a museum).
The following three images were captured from the coastline of the island facing back toward Cape Town. It was a rainy and gloomy day when we stated our visit but the rains stopped sometime while we were visiting the prison. I previously processed these images in color, but thought they were better subjects for monochrome. Both the location and the moodiness of day lend themselves to black and white.
