After leaving Costa Rica we had a full day of cruising and then on the 7th day after leaving San Juan we pulled into Guatemala to Puerto Quetzal port. It really is just a port city and all excursion will depart from here. The name “quetzal” means “large brilliant tail feather” and is the name of the bird which is the national bird and the name of the currency of Guatemala.
Here are a few images of the port as we pulled in and anchored. The cone shaped hut at the end of the walkway is a vendor area with several locals selling their textiles and handmade crafts. It was a good opportunity to pick up a few souvenirs on our way back from our excursion.
