Willow City Bluebonnets

North of San Antonio is the town of Fredricksburg.  Just north of this town on state highway 16 is the rural community of Willow City.  This small private ranch community is besieged annually in the spring during bluebonnet season by visitors from all over Texas and beyond.  Why?  Because of their beautiful bluebonnets.  Generally their fields and yards are absolutely covered by the Texas state flower and people drive for miles to drive through the Willow City loop to see the blooms.

This spring Texas enjoyed one of the best wildflower seasons we have had in about 10 years, due to the abundance of rain last fall.  So the Willow City loop did not disappoint.  The small farm road the winds through the PRIVATE PROPERTY is marked posted on all sides so you are not to get out and walk on their property.  If you are careful not to park or stand in any of the flowers, and you go when the traffic is slow, you have a few seconds to jump out while parked in the middle of the road, grab a pic, and get back into the car.  All of the below images were captured right from the main road (or less than 20 feet off the road) while driving through the loop.

The famous “boot fence” is on the way out of the loop as you are heading back to the south entrance off hwy 16.  There is plenty of room along this road to stop and grab a shot!
